Gencon Redesign

Wanting to experience almost all aspects of a website redesign – I decided to take on redesigning the Gencon website experience as a personal project. Steps taken but not necessarily shown below were: Basic analytics, visual competitive analysis, target audience workshops, information architecture, wire framing, design, prototyping and development.

As a casual tabletop and video gamer myself, the content Gencon could potentially generate highly appeals to me. Since this is a personal project, I didn’t have access to stakeholders who would typically have a say in the overall process. I do have friends and colleagues within the target audience that I gathered to do a human-centered design workshop that I facilitated. The workshop used the Rose/Thorn/Bud method to identify elements within the current site as positive, negative, or having potential. Afterwards, I used Affinity Clustering to sort those workshop responses into various categories.

Doing these workshops as well as the research I did beforehand, well informed how I would go about the design process.
